DiverseCity onBoard, an award winning initiative, works towards ensuring that governance boards of non-profit and public bodies reflect the population they serve. We do this for reasons of inclusion.
In less than a decade, the program has evolved to become the “go to” program that connects qualified, pre-screened candidates from visible minority and under-represented communities to volunteer board positions. The program also provides online governance training to organizations and individuals regardless of their background.
As the demographic profile of a city changes, it is imperative that public and voluntary institutions reflect the lives and experiences of this new demographic. Diversity at the board table ensures that institutional leadership is responsive to the new needs of newer residents. Further, diversity of thinking and perspectives leads to innovation, new solutions and improved organizational performance.
